Free Health Screening

Once a month on the third Monday, a nurse is available to conduct free health screenings for adults. Cholesterol screenings, blood pressure analysis, and Body Mass Index (BMI) tests are conducted at no cost to community members. Screening includes access to blood glucose levels associated with diabetes and hemoglobin levels connected to anemia diagnosis. Appointments can be made by contacting the Health Coordinator at (213) 742-6385.

Heart H.E.LP.

Heart H.E.L.P. involves five weekly two-hour workshops for adults at risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, myocardial infarction, stroke, or congestive heart failure. Participants will learn about reducing risk factors for heart disease, nutrition, exercise, and weight management.

Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions

Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions involves six weeks of two-hour workshops designed for adults suffering from any chronic condition, such as asthma, COPD, arthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, etc. Participants will learn about improving their quality of life, lifestyle changes, medications, communication skills, and overcoming emotions such as depression, anger, frustration, and tiredness.

Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (D.E.E.P.)

The Diabetes Empowerment Education Program involves six weeks of two-hour workshops for people who are pre-diabetic, have diabetes, and relatives and caregivers. Participants will gain a better understanding of diabetes self-care. Topics covered during this program include improving and maintaining the quality of life, preventing complications and disabilities, increasing physical activity, and improving relationships.

Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program (H.E.L.P.)

H.E.L.P. is a free program that provides educational workshops for overweight or obese children ages 5-12 years old to learn about the fundamentals of nutrition, exercise, and fitness. Children must be accompanied by an adult. H.E.L.P. classes run for six weeks and each class is two hours long.
