Education

Family Literacy

Our Family Literacy program enables parents to receive literacy training, English as a Second Language, GED, and other adult education; as well as parenting education that supports parents in their role as their child’s first teacher. While parents are attending Family Literacy classes, their children are in one of our Child Development Centers receiving high-quality care and early education. This program is provided in partnership with Abram Friedman Occupational Center and Los Angeles City College and was developed in collaboration with LAUSD.

School Readiness

For children aged 4-5 years, we provide full-day education and case management services as needed that prepare children and their families for successful entrance into Kindergarten. Research has shown that children who are Kindergarten ready will be more successful in school.

Youth Center

For elementary, middle, and high-school students, Hope Street’s Youth Center provides academic support, health and wellness activities, sports and recreation, and arts programming. The Youth Center is open every day after-school and operates year-round, including during the summer break.

Our Summer of Science program is offered every year and aims to inspire students to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) subjects and careers. The curriculum includes classroom learning, hands-on projects, and weekly field trips.

College prep and career development activities are also offered for high school students. College prep workshop topics include financial aid, applying for college, college entrance exams, and life skills along with field trips to local colleges and universities. Students also have the opportunity to learn about job searching, interview basics, and specific information on careers.
