Holiday Happenings at Hope Street

Happy New Year! We hope this new beginning brings all of you peace, happiness, and good health. Hope Street wrapped up 2019 by being the beneficiary of toy drives and holiday gift drop-offs from UCLA’s Phi Lambda RHO sorority, Eagle Rock Elementary School’s PTA, Honda of Downtown Los Angeles, California Hospital Foundation’s Board, LAPD’s Central Division, NBC Universal and Contempo Aesthetics. These gifts brought joy and happiness to our kids and created priceless memories for our families. We are grateful for the generosity of Hope Street’s donors and friends during the holidays and throughout the year!

Honda of Downtown Los Angeles not only donated gifts but also hosted a holiday party complete with Santa Claus, hot chocolate and a live band! Joe Shuster, owner of the dealership and member of California Hospital’s Foundation Board, generously hosted the event after learning that Hope Street might not be able to give a gift to every child.

The Phi Lambda sorority from UCLA visited on December 7 and not only brought gifts but also joined our kids in making arts and crafts and reading to children.

On December 20, Hope Street held our annual Family Engagement Holiday Party at each of our centers – the Margolis Family Center, Angelica Lutheran Church and at Mercy Housing. Families were treated to a delicious holiday lunch and then spent the afternoon playing games and making festive crafts together. Everybody was also sent home with goody bags donated by Lakeshore Learning Center.

Children from Hope Street’s Margolis Family Center were especially surprised to receive gifts from NBC Universal and the LAPD’s Central Division’s Community Relations/Senior Lead Office. Officers Sylvia Padilla, Alfonso Flores, Jorge Zambrano, and Liz Ortega are steadfast supporters of Hope Street and joined our families in celebrating the season.

Matt and Steven from NBC Universal dropped off gifts for 50 children in our toddler and preschool classrooms.

On December 6, Dr. Rachel Reyes- Bergano and John Bergano from Contempo Aesthetics hosted a holiday pizza party for our students at Hope Street’s Margolis Family Center. Dr. Reyes completed her medical residency through USC’s Family Medicine program at California Hospital and decided to give back to this community. The staff from Contempo Aesthetics served pizza and drinks and brought board games and gifts. Contempo Aesthetics is a medical aesthetics practice and skincare boutique located in Pasadena.

AEG Ice Skating
More than 500 families from the community brought AEG’s 2019 Season of Giving to a close-by enjoying an afternoon of ice skating at LA LIVE. About 40 After-school program students from Hope Street were invited along with other youth from All Peoples Community Center and several neighborhood Boys & Girls Clubs. AEG is one of Hope Street’s most generous supporters. Thank you for making this past holiday season magical!
